New Schools & A College Campus

We are committed to ensuring that The Vale is at the forefront of education in North Somerset.

We propose to provide three primary schools and a new secondary school. We also believe there is the opportunity to create a University Technical College at the Vale - something we have done with great success at other major developments in other parts of the UK.

A University Technical College for North Somerset – In The Vale

UTCs - What are they? UTCs are government-funded schools that offer 14–18 year olds a great deal more than traditional schools. They teach students technical and scientific subjects in a whole new way and are educating the inventors, engineers, scientists and technicians of tomorrow. If a new UTC is included in the Vale it could have a construction specialism with apprenticeships guaranteed for 20 years.

It is recognised that the UK needs advanced technical skills at all levels if it is to prosper in the 21st century. UTCs are meeting the needs of the skills gap and by 2016 more than 30,000 students will be able to follow this new technical education pathway.

We are talking with local education authorities and providers to explore whether a UTC could be provided at The Vale.
