The location of The Vale provides a unique opportunity to improve connectivity in North Somerset and South Bristol, for public transport users, for road users, for pedestrians and for cyclists.
Strategic Highway Links
The Vale is well-placed in relation to the A370 and A38 roads which provide connections across North Somerset and into Bristol City centre. The completion of the South Bristol Link Road, which passes through the site, will make improvements to the local highway network, while offering potential access opportunities for the proposed new community at The Vale.
The Vale is in a highly sustainable location adjacent to the Long Ashton Park and Ride, with bus services every 10 minutes during the morning and evening peak hours. The MetroBus network will link into the existing Park and Ride facility, providing a dedicated link to Bristol Temple Meads Station, along the South Bristol Link to Hengrove, and a number of other locations around the city centre and onwards towards the eastern and northern fringes of Bristol. If The Vale is developed, it would mean the MetroBus network could be extended to serve the development and on towards Bristol Airport.
Potential For A New Railway Station
The Great Western Rail Line runs through the land and provides links to Bristol Temple Meads, Weston-Super-Mare and the south-west region. There is also the opportunity to enhance rail connectivity within the local area by the provision of a new station as part of MetroWest’s future expansion.
Pedestrian & Cycle Links
There is a direct, predominantly off-carriageway cycle path between Long Ashton and Bristol City centre which is approximately 3.0 miles long and along relatively flat terrain. Our proposals would integrate cycle links into the infrastructure of the development, with Bristol City centre a short 20 minute cycle ride away. A new strategic route for pedestrians and cyclists could also be provided on the A38 corridor between Bristol City Centre and the Airport.
